The Painter’s Triumph

Sometimes one hears in comments and dialogues about painting and painters that such or such artist has triumphed.

And I ask myself… What is triumph of a painter? How can we measure that triumph?... by its quotation?... by its international recognition? We could continue adding questions to try and find an answer which, on some occasions, could come from the artist himself. I have personally very often heard, in conversations on art, people talking about artists that have triumphed, but… where does exactly lie the triumph of the painter? I am convinced I have the answer: the triumph of the painter lies in the same act of painting, when he faces the untouched canvas and starts giving it a life. That is the moment, I repeat, when the artist is triumphing.

Painting, that is the great triumph of the painter!
