The Birth of the Work of Art

Often when talking to other artists, I have noticed their fixation with establishing a connection between the artwork and the outside world. I, on the other hand, am convinced that the work must stem from the artist’s interior; there is no need to subordinate it to that relationship.

The creative freedom of the artist must be carried to the extreme. When creating the artwork, all ties must be cut between the intrinsic and the extrinsic so that the union between the interior and the exterior does not become limiting nor condition a single trace or colour hue. Once a piece that is born from the artist’s interior is shown to the public, it must respond to external sensations, forming a union between the spiritual and the material, a communion between the artwork and the spectator; a bond born out of love and not analysis.
