Actor and Spectator

I often think that we can’t consider that a painting is finalized with the painter’s last brushstroke, but when the piece encounters the spectator.

In order to fully comprehend a work of art, we don’t have to ask ourselves what did the painter see, but rather let sensations spring up without the need to ask questions. Communication should be held in a space free of analysis. We shouldn’t look for a reason for this blue or this red, for the placement of objects in space. Space is landscape, figures, movement, abstraction, colour… everything has its own place.

It is difficult for a painter to write or reflect on sensations that emerge while creating a work of art without feeling like the executor but rather the spectator of the piece.
