Jorge Rando (Spain, 1941) is one of the key figures in contemporary art. He was born in Málaga, the same city as Picasso, where, like the Cubist painter, he has a museum dedicated to his work by the City Council.
“Painting is a spiritual quest, because spirituality is present in everything that surrounds us and within ourselves,” says the Spanish painter. This quest has found its expression in the creation of a language known as New Expressionism—an artistic conception centred on life that advocates spirituality and humanistic values.
From the 1960s to the present day, Jorge Rando has explored the complexities of human nature in search of truth and beauty. Known as the philosopher of painting, his major thematic cycles explore love and suffering, compassion, dignity, identity, and the call for a harmonious relationship between human beings and nature.
